GULP: This is an experiment. I’m going to start writing about how I lost 90 lbs.

Note: In my never-ending experiments of how to make things more Easy Effortless Fun (+ with less friction) I am experimenting with posting on my site’s blog so I don’t have to mess with the friction-generating technicalities of learning Insta and WordSwag, etc.) And that includes putting my recent FB posts here, as well as new posts—with the aim of getting more of this out to you as many of you have asked! Welcome to my messy experimenting life! (Which is actually my most fun life. :-).

I posted this on FB on 2/11/22:

GULP: This is an experiment. I’m going to start writing about how I lost 90 lbs and kept them off for 6+ years & counting. PLUS! How I make it Easy. Effortless. Fun for me to do it.

Most of you don’t weigh 250 lbs like I did. But how I lost weight is also how I change many other habits in my life. So if just one of you picks up a new way to think about how to change a habit that’s really bugging you, that’s fantastic!

Dunno how long I’ll do this. It’s likely to be sporadic. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time but my Scaredy-Cat Brain wouldn’t let me. Today my Dopamine Brain trumped my Cortisol Scaredy-Cat Brain.

I wrote what’s below when first up this morning. It is virtually unedited. I can’t guarantee it makes complete sense. But again, this is an experiment. So here goes:

… One Giggle Step habit (like BJ Fogg’s “Floss One Tooth Daily” Habit)--you can lock-in in a month or less.

… But to lose a lot of weight permanently requires locking in a huge array of hundreds of habits.

… Right now I’m calling them “Locked-In Array Habits.”

… Those are habits you do even when all hell is breaking loose in your life. Which happens to all of us. It can be a bad day at work or a death in the family and everything in between.

… Also, having a “Locked-In Array Habit” means when you can go completely off your new habit (Confession: I still binge) but can get back on--easily and effortlessly.

… Your Scaredy-Cat Brain must understand the difference between adopting one "Giggle Step Habit" and adopting a “Locked-In Array Habit.”

… Changing a “Locked-In Array Habit” can take 5 years. Mine did.

… When I weighed 250 lbs, just knowing what to do to lose the weight did not = a “Locked-In Array Habit.”

… Doing it for a month (or several) did not = a “Locked-In Array Habit.”

… In future posts I’ll write about the punchline. :).
